Staff Week – Communicating in English for Research

Objective

The aim of the training is to develop the communication skills of academic staff in the areas of public speaking and fluent communication in English within an international environment. The programme focuses on overcoming stress-related barriers, improving the presentation of research results, and enhancing networking skills and participation in informal conversations accompanying scientific events.

Format and Duration of the Initiative

The initiative will take place at a SEA-EU partner university — University of Brest — from 26 to 28 May 2026.

Participants

The initiative is open to individuals who hold the status of an academic teacher employed at the University of Gdańsk on the date of application and during the planned mobility period. Applicants may not apply for or participate in the initiative while on any type of leave. The declared English language proficiency level must be at least B1+/B2.

Recruitment

Each applicant is required to complete a dedicated registration form: https://forms.office.com/e/kR7AFxNWQY
One of the required elements of the form is a motivation letter justifying the choice of mobility, which should aim at enhancing the applicant’s competences. The letter must explain how the topic of the mobility relates to the applicant’s academic work and how it will contribute to their professional development. The form must be completed and submitted by 12 March 2026.

Funding will be awarded based on the total number of points obtained — applications with a higher score will be prioritised according to the ranking list. Funding is available for 3 participants. Only applicants who submit a complete set of required documents and meet the above requirements may be qualified for the mobility.

Recruitment Criteria

1. Formal Criteria (must be met)

  • Status of an academic teacher at the University of Gdańsk
  • Minimum English language level B1+
  • Complete application

Substantive Criteria (Scoring)

  1. Substantive evaluation of the motivation letter justifying the choice of mobility (aimed at competence development) – 0–5 points
  2. Relevance of the mobility’s thematic scope to the applicant’s professional/academic work – 0–5 points

Recruitment Results

The evaluation committee is required to prepare a ranking list divided into:

  • selected candidates,
  • reserve list,
  • applicants not meeting the criteria.

All applicants will be individually informed about the results by email by 13 March 2026. The list of selected participants will also be available on the SEA-EU Offer webpage.

Funding

Participation in the mobility for qualified employees of the University of Gdańsk who meet the criteria is free of charge.The mobility is funded by the Erasmus+ programme. The maximum grant amount is €1,259.

Documentation Before the Initiative

Participants qualified for the initiative are required to:

  • submit an Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Training funding application signed by the applicant and their direct supervisor,
  • complete and sign the Staff Mobility for Training agreement (signed by the applicant, the sending institution — direct supervisor, and the receiving institution),
  • complete a foreign travel application form,
  • register on the Erasmus+ platform.

Documentation After the Initiative

Participants who complete the initiative are required to:

  • provide a certificate of participation,
  • submit a report via the Erasmus+ platform.
